Subject:Watering your Garden

I have many times observed house owners or helpers hosing their garden plants but with varying effect. Some did not apply enough water while others literally flooded their planters and garden beds. Too much water in pots and garden beds causes leaching of most nutrients from the soil. This results in more frequent fertilizer application and cost. Too little water results in leaf browning and plant stress.

Water run-off from drainage holes in pots is an indication of when to stop watering at each pot. It is best to water your garden before 9 a.m and after 6 p.m. to avoid the hot sun and leaf scorch.

However this can become the most relaxing chore of the day for many garden lovers!
